Hey everybody
Two pieces of news for East gardeners: First, the wall attached to the house on our northernmost boundary is uncertain so please don't get too close to it. The problem will be resolved asap.
Second, news from Dennis: I have some left over honeydew melon seedlings that I have no room for. It’s on the east end of my plot #18 sitting on the corner in a small planter. There are three. Please take!
And for East and West gardeners, this weekend TomatoMania will be at Descanso gardens selling terrific seedlings. Might be worth a check out. http://tomatomania.com/descanso
See you around,
Hannah

Share some seeds, baby!
Here it is! Seed sharing is in effect in both Monterey gardens! Leave seeds, take seeds, let's make the seed sharing experience a cool one for all of us.
If the boxes get too filled with seed packets, no problem, more wooden boxes will magically appear. Imagine how much more interesting our plots can be with a broader variety of seeds.

We got so much done, what a relief. Here's Melissa with her plot.
Alek and Julia chipping and shredding their way to greatness
Will and Kendyl take compost to a new level
Hey there's Dennis composting it up too
Tommy, Lindsay and Natasha bravely defeat a big weed patch
Kimberly's having fun
So's Carl
Colin and Jenny show those weeds what's what
John! Making the East shed a productive, USEFUL place! Oh the magic.
Adam has the clippers that makes the compost happen
Hey there's Julia
But how does Julia look when seen through a pink-flowering tree? Much like this.
How about Andy? At last we know.
Here's Mike starring in the last of the pink flowers+sunglasses series.
Above and beyond awards go to Paul and Crystal who painted the entire East shed even though it's too high for one person to get to.
Founder and steering committee vice chair Ana on the scene
And Joan our East garden manager, well protected by her hat.
Thanks, everyone who came out! You were tremendous.
Wait, there's more: Tomatomania is coming! Karen, steering committee Secretary and grower of the best tomatoes our gardens have ever seen reports that her incredibly productive plants came from these people. Might want to check them out! http://www.tomatomania.com

This Saturday! Please come help if you can! We need you!
First work day of the new year! We need all of the help we can get! We have a broad mix of activities to perform including but not limited to painting, weeding and shovel-based acrobatics (i.e. moving soil, mulch and sand from one place to another).
We now have two gardens under our care and plenty of work has to be done at each one so please mark your calendar and plan to join us on the 19th. Bring sunscreen or a hat, garden gloves, water and anyone else who can also spend a few hours making the world a better place through direct action. All ages are welcome.
The adventure happens on Saturday, March 5th at 10am, meeting first at the older East garden at 870 Monterey Road. Join us if you can! Bring friends and fam if they can! Giving back is good for the soul.

Welcome Monterey Community Garden WEST Gardeners!
It has happened at last, we have a whole new community garden filled with wonderful people right across the street from the first (East) garden.
West gardeners, welcome to the adventure. Feel free to stop by the East garden to meet some of us whenever it's convenient.
East gardeners, feel free to stop by the West garden to meet some of the terrific new participants, they're a delightful bunch.
Soon(ish, maybe after the holidays) we'll set up a get together so both gardens can meet each other and perhaps enjoy a nice potluck.
I hope the West gardeners will enjoy the experience as much as we Easterners have, it's a great joy to expand community gardening in Glendale. Many thanks to the City of Glendale and the Kiwanis club!
